To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X385. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.20.232. (17) x7-60 RIVETLESS BONNET 40/50. Referring to Sgll/E18.2.32. We see no reason why rivetless bonnets should not be fitted to Phantom 11 cars. The one we have on 22-EX. has run two to three thousand miles and as the scheme closely follows the one used on 18-G4. which has run 15,000 miles, we think the risk is very small. There is one point, however, we believe the proposal is that when we adopt the rivetless bonnet it should be made 6" longer, that is, overhang the dash 6". We have never made a bonnet of this type yet although we are fitting one to 19-EX. and the bonnet and the dashboard should be on the car in about a week. Our recommendation would be that we should go ahead with the rivetless bonnet. It means ordering all new material, but as you will see from the attahced note the proposal is that the existing material could be used up on the left-hand cars. Before we have completed any production cars with the longer bonnet, we shall have 19-EX. running and in the event of u getting into difficulties we shall always have existing material to fall back upon. We think this risk however is very small. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Attached BY/Mtn17/N.18.2.32. | ||
