The Morse Chain Co.Ltd.,
Letchworth.

Dear Sirs,

We are approaching you with regard to a period which we have in a chain driving an overhead camshaft on one of our experimental units.

Enclosed is the arrangement of the drive the chain being of the double roller type with a "Weller Tensioner" and damping pad.

The period which is a violent flapping of the chain, making considerable noise, has a speed range from 2300-2500 R.P.M. There are other minor periods but this particular one is outstanding.

The crankshaft pinion which drives the 1/2 speed wheel upon which the driving sprocket is mounted, is spring driven in conjunction with friction damping.

From the driving sprocket, the chain is connected to the drivensprocket which is mounted solidly to the camshaft.

Up to the present no serious attempts have been made to overcome this period and at the moment the engine is dismantled and likely to be so for a further week.
