Re Matters on which more complete replies are required from England.

Referring to Mr. Basil Johnson's memo, of the 22nd of November, with attached replies from Derby, the following matters are still without sufficient reply from Derby.
X 6504

1. Luggage Carriers. - We are still without information as to the Derby luggage carrier. As Derby states, we were promised that these drawings would be despatched on September 1st, but we have not yet received them. Derby says they were despatched on September, 3rd, but I think they refer to the luggage braket.

What we require is the luggage carrier itself which fits on the bracket, and we have no drawings of this yet.

2. Spark Plugs. - Derby states that a complete report on the matter of spark plugs was sent to America on Oct. 11th. We have not yet seen this report, but received from Mr. Hives a memo dated on the 4th of October, in which favourable comment was made on the Champion Spark Plugs. We have been asking Derby for reports on the several other makes of spark plugs which were sent early this year.

3. Magnetos. - Derby states that Mr. Clark points out that the testing of magnetos has been given little attention at Derby because it is doubtful whether they will greatly excel our present standard.

We think that this is not the right attitude for Derby to take. The magnetos were sent to them at their requirt in order to give them an idea of the best standard production machines which could be obtained in America. They were sent us on memorandum invoice and should be either returned or paid for as early as possible. Even if they are no better than the Watford, they would be better for us to use in this country because of the facility of service.

This point of view has been emphasized a lot in our correspondence with Derby.
