COPY OF LETTER FROM HEADQUARTERS,COASTAL AREA,ROYAL AIR FORCE, LEE-ON-SOLENT,HANTS. DATED FEBRUARY, 1936. REF. CA/3323/5/E

24 K.L.G.V7/3B Sparking Plugs in "Osprey"
K.5744. Kestrel V.3851

"With reference to your letter EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/RDO.1/MH.{M. Huckerby} dated 12th February, 1936, instructions have been issued for the above mentioned plugs to be run as long as possible without attention. It is pointed out that they cannot run indefinitely as service maintenance requirements call for an examination and cleaning every twenty hours; this of course we shall have to comply with.

2. Your request for 100 hours flying would appear to be excessive, as it is found from experience gained in this Command that the average life of sparking plugs in modern engines is nearer 20 than 100 hours.

3. When these plugs become definitely unserviceable they will be returned to you.

Yours faithfully,

(sgd) W. S. Caster
