Hanbury - Head Complaints} Mr. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Y 4-117 PN.{Mr Northey}11/NT29.6.31. Springing 25 H.P. Car GOS-59. With further reference to the case of Verrell and your memo Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}11/E.29.6.31 I arranged for JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} to take our trials car GLR-39 for a short run thismorning with RC.{R. Childs} before the car left for Eastbourne in order that he might form an opinion as to how he thinks this car, with its low-rating springs and suitable shock-absorbers compares with the Verrell car, which is supposed to have been similarly fitted. He tells me that the riding of the two cars is entirely different, the Verrell car, as you know, having been turned down by me for instability etc., and our own car being considered a practical and useful car forordinary conditions of running. I have had a talk on the 'phone with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} this afternoon about the whole matter, and informed him of the above, and I fear we are no nearer being able to find out why it is the springing in one case was satisfactory, and in the other entirely not so. It looks as if we must, very carefully for the time being, watch the application of these springs when passing the cars out for delivery during test. Any difference in centre of gravity between two cars is not likely to account for this difference in stability, and in any case I find that the weight of the two cars GLR-39 (trials) and GOS-59 (Verrell) are almost identical.
