Oil - Sample No.16627

-----------------

Dear Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer},

I am enclosing herewith a report on the above samples, together with a copy of the letter received from the laboratory in connection with this.

You will note that they do not agree that the trouble is necessarily caused by the use of leaded fuels, and that they ask for one of the corroded plugs in question.

Unfortunately I sent these two plugs away to our laboratory in America, and I was wondering whether you have any further ones which you could send me. If so, I would be much obliged.

I will let you have our Detroit laboratory's report on the aluminium plugs if and when I receive it, and in the meantime if you could send me a further plug in its corroded state I will have it examined by the laboratory over here.

For my private information, could you tell me whether both the cars in question have been using this new Wakefield's oil? You will note that the laboratory does not consider that the bromide present would cause this trouble, and also if the lead was present in the form of oxide you should not be getting corrosion from this source.

Yours sincerely,
F.R. Banks
