COPY. S/W. {Sales / Derby Works} EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 8155- LE7/C/9.4.32. Re 20/25HP. Front Wings. With reference to the attached Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /GWH. {George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 6/MA.5.4.32., I note that the Experimental Dept. have not got any scheme for overcoming the trouble of the front wings moving when there is no spare wheel fitted. Their experience with steel wings on 1S.G4. is that these are perfectly steady. I have only had one car, GBT 29. fitted with steel wings and these certainly were no appreciably better than aluminium wings as far as steadiness is concerned, no wheels being fitted on the sides, but the radiator was slightly less inclined to move. Hoopers fitted a cross bar, but this effected only a slight improvement. If you will let me have some idea as to what type of extra stay and where it should be fitted, I will get the Coach builders to fit one up and see whether the improvement is sufficiently marked to warrant this a standard job.
