Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. Mantell.

With reference to your letter of the 23rd. inst.
We note your remarks, but our tests were carried out most carefully and we do not think there is a possibility that we have in any way confused the results.

The exhaust of the car with the Solex carbur-etter definitely smells strong at small throttle openings and there is every sign of the mixture being over-rich.

Our experience has been that we can certainly go as far as from 16 to 11 miles to the gall. on our own carburetters by altering the setting without the car behaving in an abnormal manner. In any case, it is very difficult to ascertain whether there is a loss of power with small throttle openings due to over-richness; we should think this is quite probable in the case of the Solex.

We do not know whether the double throat carburetter for a 6-cyl. engine suffers from blow-back, but there does not seem to be any capacity on the outside of the chokes to prevent loss of fuel from this phenomenon. In any case, we feel you can rest assured that our consumption tests were carried out with accuracy and represent actual facts.

Yours faithfully,
