X4481. To Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} (For Depot Sheet) from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/AD2.10.29. c. Mr. Walker. PHANTOM II REAR AXLE LUBRICANT. This axle is now a Hypoid gear. As a result the rubbing action between the teeth is increased and in consequence the quality of lubricating oil used becomes most important. The recommended oil is Whitmores Compound. The difficulty about this oil is that it is not widely distributed. Whilst we emphasise the importance of using the recommended oil if it is available, we consider that topping up the axle with any good gear oil will not cause damage. We think that appreciable loss of oil from the axle should be a rare occurrence. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
