To Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}/Hdv. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} X4481 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}3/MJ.19.9.29. PHANTOM II CHASSIS. ------------ X7350 X4481 With reference to your Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}/lidy1/MJV18.9.29., we confirm that the lubricant for use in the Phantom ll rear axle is Whitmore's Compound. The axle holds between ¾ and 1 gallon of this lubricant. So far we know of no other oil which will be satisfactory. It should not be necessary to add more than one pint of oil to the axle for 10,000 miles running. We are not recommending customers to change their oil, as from our experience it will be quite satisfactory if the lubricant is changed when the cars are sent into the depot for overhaul. It is so thick that it would not be a practicable proposition. The price of the oil we understand from our Accounts Dept., as 1/3d. per pound, a gallon would weigh about 9½ lbs.
