Dear Mr.Banks,

I thank you for your letter of the 21st. inst., also the exhaust valves which were received this morning.

We are going to run them alongside some standard KE.965 valves for endurance tests on one of our experimental units running on Ethyl fuel. We will let you know the comparative results as soon as our tests are complete.

Assuming the nature of the special XCR. valves is similar to our normal Silichrome we should be able to run with a smaller clearance in the guide than is necessary for KE.965.

This is an important feature as in cutting down valve gear noise it is necessary to run with the minimum guide clearance. It is, we have found, necessary to run exhaust valves in KE.965 with a diametrical clearance of .003 - .004 in the guides and only .002 with Silichrome.

Have you any information regarding the above with various valve materials.?

If you could oblige in this respect we should be extremely grateful.

Yours truly,
