W/Paris. To Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/GO. c. D/BP. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}16/KT.23.6.33. CHASSIS 18.G.IV. EXPL. CAR. With reference to Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/804/FAW.22.6.33. our man Bell states that he definitely told your man White who came to meet him at the station that the parts were to be brought in under temporary importation. He also states that later he told Allen the same thing. We took particular trouble at this end to see that the parts were cleared at the British Customs so that they could be returned, and we do not understand why duty should have been paid if Bell's observations on the subject are correct. Actually the reason we asked for a man to meet Bell in Paris was to see that this matter was in order. Naturally if there is no duty to be refunded, we have no interest in the damaged parts at Derby that are not repairable. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
