X-refed Hotel de France. Chateauroux. Indre. 22.6.33 To He/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. 18. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} IV. We have received your memo of the 20/6/33. BRAKES We are fully aware of the chief reason re. the fitting of the steel shoes and cannot understand your remark re. not hearing anything. When the brakes were first fitted, they were set with a lever movement of .500 with the object of seeing whether they would seize up. I gave them a lot of work to do, and although they got hot there was no sign of seizing. I sent you the result of this in my report of the 7.6.33. We asked you in that memo whether it was intended to use Ferodo, but have received no reply. The .500" setting gives very little clearance to the shoes and we found it inadvisable to run with a closer fitting. The shoes were carefully bedded in before starting and were not spongy. We have not run to destroy the brakes, but during the tests we did, we have not had the increase of movement of the brake pedal. We could not afford to do heavy braking work as we are short of tyres. We have still not received the English Dunlops. They are now three weeks overdue. We have finished and leaving here for Paris this evening. G.W.Hancock G.W.H. | ||
