HYPOID AXLE OIL.

With reference to Roy{Sir Henry Royce}6/MG.30.6.31. Mr. Brooker is entirely misinformed concerning our approval of Castrol 'R' for the lubrication of hypoid rear axle gears. Who is responsible for this we do not know.

Castrol "R" was very definitely condemned in the very early days of Phantom II and has not since been tried out in any way. We are having considerable success with Wakefield's No.1 Gearease for this purpose, but have not yet had sufficient experience with it to warrant its standardisation.

We have none of Price's lubricants for this purpose under observation at the present time, since the very bad let down we experienced with their previous compound we have been shy of testing any further hypoid oil received from them.

May we refer you to our Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}3/KT.13.3.31. in connection with this, the remarks therein still hold good.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/A.J.Lidsey.
