-3- Exhaust Butterfly choke squeaking. W. find that the best remedy is to fit a steatite bush and a nitralloy spindle. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} will send some of these to Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} to try and R.{Sir Henry Royce} is to carry out the same job in future. No charge to customers in Complaint cases, but try to persuade owners to pay for the change as an 'improvement', after 20,000 miles. Engine Over-oiling. (a) Phantom I. This matter was considerably discussed, and it was decided that Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} and Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} should go further into the whole matter together. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} considers that most of the trouble arises from top-overoiling, and cases as such are more readily and more cheaply cured. Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} - who is not so certain - will endeavour to find a case where the trouble cannot be cured by attending to the top lubrication only. L. shaped rings are considered to be effective but the strutting of cylinders is important. R.{Sir Henry Royce} does no strutting of cylinders, but W. is prepared to supply some for use at R.{Sir Henry Royce} The use of rings, even of the 'L' type, is liable to be ineffective if cylinders are not strutted. (b) Phantom II. It is considered probable that if trouble is experienced on Phantom II cars, it will always be from top over-oiling as the new type Girder ring should prevent bottom over-oiling altogether. Asbestos washers on the valves in lieu of the felt washers which become charred, are likely to be successful. The cases of Roch - 122-WJ, and Hambro - 120-WJ, should be watched, as these are the first Phantom II over-oiling complaints. Slipper Drives. The new design for Phantom II cars is likely to be effective. Help, however, is wanted by Repair Depots on Phantom I cases, as it is suggested that there are cases in which we are beaten after doing all we know. It was agreed that Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} should bring forward such a case, and that in general Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} and Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} should get together on this matter and consult both Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and SP.{Mr Spinney} Exhaust Blown. A new washer has just come into use, and has been sent to Repair Depots. It is considered that this washer with its special steel insertion, will effect a great improvement. | ||
