We are returning note DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M.7/1/29. We have now reduced the top of the guards to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}'s sketch and hope to give you the results as soon as we get running again. Unfortunately our guards had been torn at the top by the rear wing bracket bolts. We have cut these sections out and riveted pieces in, making the job as near perfection under the circumstances as can be got. We are welding the bolts into the stays to do away with the projecting nut and doing this hope to do away with this part fouling. With regard to the large drain holes, you will remember we had observed this early on and the job was taken up with Shelton, the size of the holes being reduced to I believe 3/16". We should keep on the number, as on the S.S. here they have prevented the oil getting on to the brakes on the O.S. as reported. If the holes has not been there, this brake would have been swamped with oil. The car should be running this week end for the test as you suggested before altering the engine front mounting. How long it will take to fit the solid engine feet I am not prepared to say, it looks to be a very tedious job. I sincerely hope it does not mean having to drop the engine. Until I can see clearly how long this job will take, I cannot very well let Mr. Royce have the date when the car will arrive, but will do so as soon as it possibly can be done. The time taken to dismantle every pipe and bijur is considerable. The men have worked hard and conscientiously on the job, every part has been thoroughly examined and checked. To do this it may have taken longer than what you would expect, but please realize that the chassis has been stripped to the bare frame.
