BY/NS{Norman Scott} W. Alex c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} WYATTAN DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}6/G.28.6.38. noted 616 WRAITH 111 - CRANKCASE REAR END COVER AND OIL RETAINER. Please receive herewith E.CD.765 Crank-case Rear End Cover - Wraith 111 and Bentley 111. This design embodies the gas seal shown on the previous design E.CD.224, used in conjunction with the existing oil retaining features and applied to existing engines, as the crankcaseand crankshaft are unaltered. The only new parts required are the end cover with its paper joint washer, and a finer finish is called for on the rear flange of the rear crankshaft journal bearing, as this is now used to spigot the end cover and at the same time be reasonably leak proof. Will you please detail and instruct the new parts for the experiment. We shall also be sending a further design of oil retainer using a spring loaded leather joint washer, which will require a modification to the crankshaft for its application as per Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s request.
