For the attention of Comdr. Matravers.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 12th inst.

We are considering standardising your L.7 type Steering Gear on our 25 HP. chassis, and we should like to have a dismantled L.7 gear up here for the purpose of examination by our Design Dept. We should be very much obliged if, when you visit us within the next day or two, you could bring with you an unused L.7 gear for this purpose. The details of the gear, such as ratio, length of rockershaft, etc. need not be identical to those you have supplied to us.

When the writer was at your works on Friday last you mentioned that the L.7 gear now had the upper cover of the box bolted, instead of screwed, to the box. We are interested in this as one of our troubles with our L.7 gear is oil leakage at this point. We should be glad if you would bring with you, drawings of the modification and, if possible, samples of the parts affected by the alteration. We shall also want to discuss the cause of the pitting of the roller race on the cam removed from our final L.7 gear last Friday.

Will you please put in hand a third L.7 type R.H. gear identical to those which we have at present, i.e.,

(1) Cam giving 3 1/4 turns from lock to lock.
(2) Long length (6 3/4") rockershaft.
