Referring to the question of the probable adoption on an early date of a flexible drive for the Magneto, I have been discussing this question at some length with Messrs. Hardy & Company, who manufacture the fabric. They point that we have had under discussion being the question of the accuracy with which the flexible couplings can be manufactured and drilled so as to ensure the couplings running fairly true.

The nett result of the discussion is summed up in the fact that in their last letter Messrs. Hardy actually say -

"We beg to advise you that in a flexible material such as ours we could not guarantee any such accuracy as you suggest. We do not believe any flexible material could be deemed accurate."

I judge from their remarks that they do not consider the fabric can be kept within a nearer figure than .025" eccentric, which would mean .050" on an Indicator.
