RE. LUBRICATION AND RATTLE OF MAGNETO DRIVE. X2762
40/50 CHASSIS. X3550

In dealing with the above, it appears an advantage for grease to be used liberally in the serrated universal joints of this drive when building same up. Could this be done on all future drives which are being built up prior to cars or engines going on test? Similar attention should be given while the cars are on test.

In dealing with this matter in connection with with Goshawk cars, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reports from France, as follows:-

"When we pulled the generator off 5-Goshawk-11 after 8300 miles (approx.), we found that the grease was still in the serrated joint. I suggest that you treat the 40/50 Magneto Drive joints with grease in the same way when they are erected. I don't think it is worth adding any grease lubricator because if it is built up in it, it should last a very long time and oil could be added".
