RE "BUZZARD" CRANKCASE - PARTICULARS OF REAR END.

We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1262 giving particulars of the rear end of the "Buzzard" Crankcase.

You will recollect that we have already sent you schemes shewing the main body of the crankcase. This drawing illustrates the casing round the flywheel, which is cast on the upper and lower halves. It also gives details of the rear cover for the longitudinal cell in the crankcase, details of detachable studs or bolts for clamping the end of the lower half to the upper half, particulars of the boss on the flywheel case for the electric starter, details of the rear crankcase cover round the rear main bearing, details of a cover for casing in the flywheel (the bolts for this latter will be shewn on a later scheme) and particulars of the method of dealing with the rear ends of the facings for the cylinders.

Referring to this latter item, it will be noticed that in machining the cylinder facings we cannot run off the rear end, although there is no such disadvantage at the front end. This necessitates the treatment shewn on LeC.1262.

We shall, in due course, send you one or two further schemes shewing the remaining few points to be settled on the crankcase.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
