c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X1360 BY8/G.26.4.29. R.R.A.I. REPORT ON CHASSIS ALTERATION NO. 8 DEALING WITH RADIATOR CHROME PLATING. Referring to OY11 of April 10th. we are satisfied that there is no real necessity from a design or construction point of view to go to the loose-shell design in connection with chrome plated chassis. For the same cooling surface there must of course be a definite increase in weight as compared with a radiator produced in this country. With reference to the four advantages tabulated on page 2 of OY's memo, we should say that the only one that carries any weight is No.3, the others are unquestionably raked up to add weight to the manifest desire to produce the radiator of this design whether R.{Sir Henry Royce} agrees or not. With reference to the last paragraph, we are not of the opinion that it is necessary to have a loose shell construction in order to operate the shutters by an automatic device. We are certain that a design can be produced, in fact we did produce one earlier on to operate the shutters on a standard radiator automatically. There is no need to refer this back to R.{Sir Henry Royce} as in his last communication it was evident he had expressed fully his views, and nothing new has been adduced by OY. which would modify R's opinion.
