Incidental advantages of loose-shell construction not
previously mentioned are :-

(1) The shell is never uncomfortably hot to handle.

(2) Because of the lower temperature, the tendency to tarnish is very much less.

(3) By producing shells and cores interchangeably one can produce alternative "finishes," with less expense, for example, nickel, chrome, or brass. We still have requests for these in special cases.

(4) In the event of accident to shell or core, repairs are less expensive and can be made more rapidly.

It will also be noticed that a loose shell construction of some sort becomes necessary when an automatic shutter is used with thermostat in the top tank. As we have explained in Report No. 10, the sales demand has forced our hand in respect of the automatic shutter, as well as chromium plating.

Indeed, cars not so equipped are considered by purchasors as obsolete, and most difficult of sale.

Yours very truly,

ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC.
