X1360 To: [redacted] GRH Fm: [redacted] L.E. Smith BY.1/J.28.10.36. VALVE SPRINGS. With reference to your memo E.2/HP.23.10.36, we wish to confirm that we are getting in touch with the firms mentioned, with a view to obtaining supplies of Hard Drawn Piano Wire for test purposes. With reference to the oil tempering mentioned, we think it is most probable that this refers to the light tempering operation which is carried out on all hard drawn piano wire in order to relieve stress after coiling and in our opinion it does not imply that the materials referred to need to be fully hardened and tempered.
