RE: USE OF RR.56 MATERIAL FOR BIG END BEARINGS. Referring to our instruction HY{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}/GS.11/ER.23.12.36. that bushes made in RR.56 to RB.{R. Bowen}3161 were to be brought on to production for the Bentley chassis as quickly as possible, as we have had a failure on the experimental chassis to which the bearings in question were fitted for a 12,000 mile test in France, it will be necessary for us to cancel our instructions to bring in the RR.56 big end bearing bushes. The Works will therefore continue to fit RB.{R. Bowen}2810 as at present. In order to prevent misunderstanding, the shims in RR.56 are still required where they are specified on the various part lists. We would suggest that the Works finish any particular operations which are going through on the RR.56 bearing RB.{R. Bowen}3161, and then put them into stores to await further instructions. In the meantime the Order Office should hold any bar material which they have in stock, but we need not press matters with the producers of the bar providing we have a reasonable amount of stock, say 4/500 fet. In any case, this material is valuable, and should not for the moment be disposed of. By HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} | ||
