RE 40/50 STARTER MOTOR.

With part reference to our note EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 1/T8.2.22 re Batteries, and to the proposed standardisation of field windings arranged two series two parallel for the R.R. standard starter motor, it was pointed out in our EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 5/T8.9.21 that little would be gained by the standardisation of this arrangement of windings, unless the battery and leads were altered in resistance accordingly. If, however, it is agreed to adopt the larger size batteries as urged in our EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 1/T8.2.22, we should at the same time standardise the two series two parallel arrangement, but it would be necessary, for the most approved arrangement, to increase the heavy conductor size considerably, say to at least 50% increased section. (Note:- The excessive length of heavy current cable renders this quite an appreciable proportion of the resistance of the whole circuit.

Production can no doubt arrange that the three changes come on simultaneously.

We should be glad for this course to be agreed to, as it will enable us to obtain a much more lively start on the 40/50 car.
