Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} x4298 x 3082 x 4341 COMPARATIVE TESTS OF R.R. STARTING EQUIPMENT, COMPRISING P & R TYPE E.D.11 BATTERY; 27' OF 84/28's CABLE; R.R. ELECTRICALLY OPERATED MAIN SWITCH AND ACTUATOR BOX; A R.R. STANDARD 40/50 LYMAN MOTOR, WITH EQUIPMENT FITTED TO CHASSIS 2106, COMPRISING C.A.V. WILLARD 12XR-4 BATTERY; THE EQUIVALENT OF 17' OF 147/25'S CABLE; AND C.A.V. TYPE "ZB" MOTOR WITH SPECIAL C.A.V. ELECTRICALLY OPERATED ENGAGEMENT, DIRECT GEARED TO FLYWHEEL. Tests were made on the two chassis, after these had been standing out all night, the water temperatures being round about 0°C in the R.R. case and 5.5°C in the C.A.V. case. On the C.A.V. equipped car, the quantities to roll the engine (cold) were as follows :- Average volts - Battery 9.65 Motor 9.16. amps. 168 Engine revs. 50 r.p.m. Motor revs. 546. Reduction ratio. 10.92 to 1 The quantities were then re-taken, but in this case the side shaft was not being driven. The quantities were then :- Amperes 164. Volts. Battery 9.60. Motor 9.12. Engine revs. 50 r.p.m. Motor revs. 546. Similar results were then taken on 1 EX car, the average of two results being :- Volts Battery 9.45 Motor 8.48. Amperes. 120. Engine revs. 36 r.p.m. Motor revs. 840 Contd. | ||
