To CJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} X.9770 R4/M29.3.24. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} RG.{Mr Rowledge} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} BJ. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} PN.{Mr Northey} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} S E C R E T. E.A.C. 1 & V.{VIENNA} I am very anxious to get EAC.V. on the road as soon as we have finished with EAC.11., so that we have :- EAC.3. yet to finish: nothing to stop this. EAC.2. " " " " " (Except pt EAC.3.) EAV.5. " " " " " (Except EAC.2 & 3.) If EAC.1. has not progressed far I suggest we do not go on with it but use the parts for EAC.V. I understand that the :- Frame. Back axle. Springs. Front and back cross members. Front axle. Steering box. Brakes. Engine. Petrol tank are ready. These are mostly from EAC.1. Special radiator and bonnet not desired at present, the 4-speed gearbox being the only big item that stands in the way of making a really good show. I suggest we cancel EAC.1. and get some work done on EAC.V. whenever it will not delay other work. We had expected some knowledge to be gained by EAC.1. but this has now changed somewhat. Perhaps someone will say whether I am mistaken. We have tried to get the EAC.V. frame as near the ground as possible, (but have we done everything possible with present knowledge,) so that the bottom of the radiator is as low as possible, and the floor and body runners low.
