Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe}I/JAB.I2/I3.2.39 DAILY REPORT. Paulin Bentley II. - B-27-LE. Engine stripped for inspection. Cylinder head taken off and gasket found O.K. very good. Valve seatings re-ground and bedding corrected; some of the seats being distorted a little across the bridge. New nickle gasket .030" checked and trimmed clear of bores O.K. Pistons and conrods dismantled and inspected, O.K. Big ends in good condition. Carbon cleaned off piston tops and combustion chambers O.K. New sparking plug leads fitted. New C & A washers fitted to induction manifold. Propellor shaft disconnected and rear axle thrust race inspected, O.K. Spring found choc-a-bloc and flange had fidgeted on taper. Spring squared up and flange fitted O.K. on taper. Valves re-assembled in cylinder head, O.K. Springs and grummets replaced, O/K.{Mr Kilner} Fuel lines and pumps checked, O.K. Glass fuses for ignition and dynamo field changed for open conversion type. Wiring checked, O.K. Ignition contacts, rotor, condenser, points and timing checked, O.K. Steering ball ends and all axle clips checked and tightened. Rear axle O.K. Front spring plates had moved, squared up and pinned OK. All danger points inspected O.K. before assembling cowling. Front buffers packed out I/2 inch to clear 6.00 x I9 tyres. (OSF. wing iron close - NSF. clear, filed to clear). Engine, gearbox, and rear axle refilled with fresh oil. | ||
