Re Steering Pivots. 168 X.247

R.{Sir Henry Royce} 21-8-13.

We are in receipt of your memo R8/P19813 in which you state you have not yet obtained any information as to whether any spring buffers or elasticity is beneficial in saving the steering gear from road shocks.

We have raised the point with Mr Hives and he informs us that experiments were made and he issued a report (A3/EH1/C22413). We therefore send you a copy of this report herewith.

Mr Hives informs us that he condemned the spring buffers as an alternative to changing the pivots but he is of the opinion that they are beneficial to the life of the steering gear as his report shows.
