14/15 TOOTH AXLES.

Hgs/L312.7.21.

Referring to your BJ20/H7.7.21. Our replies to your queries are as follows:-

1. At present the works are not producing any 14-tooth axles. As soon as they are instructed it will take approximately six weeks before the axles are completed. At present the works have instructions to produce 15-tooth axles. It will mean holding over a stock of 15-tooth axles if we now adopt the 14-tooth for closed cars.
We have sent out a standardisation sheet for the 14-tooth axle recommending that 100 sets are put in hand at once. As soon as this has been agreed to the works will be instructed.

2. There is an increase in petrol consumption of approx: 5 to 6% between a car fitted with the 14-tooth axle compared with the 15-tooth. The difference in consumption between the 14-tooth and 15-tooth axles is approximately 9 to 10%.

3. We shall have a 14-tooth axle ready to fit to the Landaulet car, used for demonstration purposes in London, in a weeks time.

Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
