PHANTOM CLUTCH
re.NOT STOPPING ON 7.EX. - X.8300.

This was too clear of the clutch plate stop (requiring adjustment after 8,000 miles).

When re-adjusting as per instruction book to .030 it was quite an excellent clutch in all ways.

The adjustment is very convenient as we schemed it, but it requires knowledge of the instruction book, and is rather fine, but we cannot see any way of making it coarser.

We assume the front(damping) plate carrying the ferodo has .015 to .020 movement, the former preferred if effective. Anyway it seems that the adjustment (clearance of the clutch stop) should be .030 and not .020 as the latter is insufficient, but if effective it would allow for wear of clutch and stop.

It will be seen that the wear of both clutch ferodo and the clutch stop tend to require the clutch stop to follow by re-adjusting, so that 7.EX. trouble may have been-

(1) Original adjustment.
(2) Original imperfect surfaces.
(3) Wear of clutch.
(4) Wear of clutch stop.

An investigation and report on this matter would be useful. Mr.Stent will give some instructions regarding improvements in lubrication and adjustment.
