Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/WH.5.1.38. WRAITH BONNETS - WIDNEY HINGE. You will recollect that it was agreed in conference that the Wraith should have a Widney bonnet hinge as soon as possible. Such a hinge is running on 6.B.IV car at present, and it necessitates .064 (16 S.W.G) aluminium top plates. 6.B.IV car has 16 S.W.G. top and side plates. 26.G.VI will have 16 S.W.G. top and side plates during its 15,000 miles in France, while all six production Wraith cars being built have 16.S.W.G. top and side plates for their bonnets. Will you please let us have a design as soon as possible for a Widney Hinge on Wraith so that some of our cars can be fitted up with these hinges. At the moment the D.O. are asking whether they can order up 16 S.W.G. material for Wraith bonnets. In view of the lack of experience with this gauge material for R.R. bonnets we think that ordering of this material should be delayed as late as possible in order that we can have the benefit of (a) running on 26.G.VI. (b) building of six production bonnets. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. | ||
