Gentlemen:

Thank you very kindly for your letter of June 1st enclosing drawing No. N.Sch.4985 showing a seal which you propose to use on the pinion shaft.

We have very carefully checked over this drawing, and are prompted to suggest a slight modification as indicated on the enclosed sketch No. EX-61. Your sketch called for a seal 1-11/16" x 2-3/8"; however, this would be an extremely difficult seal to construct, and one which might not be entirely practicable because of the narrow wall. We are suggesting our seal No. 60603 which is indicated on the enclosed.

As near as we can determine from your drawing, the increase in the outer diameter would not be extremely difficult to handle as, apparently, there is plenty of clearance.

We would like to submit for your consideration the following quotation on the above number:

Not Less Than:
200

VICTOPHENE OIL SEALS
1-11/16" x 2.504"
Victor No. 60603
$33.00 C

This price is quoted f.o.b. Chicago, terms net 30 days. Delivery can be made four weeks after receipt of your order.

You have also asked our opinion about the installation of a small felt washer or ring outside oil seal. We feel that such a felt is a good addition as it does seal; however, certain precautions should be taken to insure against too great tension which in test would develop high frictional heat. In considering this felt, we recommend that the inside diameter by held to 1-11/16" plus .000" minus .015", and also the felt should be soaked with oil before assembling to minimize the frictional
