| Hoob. Fwd 2.2.39. To R.M. I.M.W. We removed the Cyl' head to examine valves etc. There was very little carbon in the combustion chambers, or on the piston tops. The inlet valves were very good showing no signs of having sunk into the seats. The exhaust valves were fair, two or three had deposits of carbon down their stems & were not seating all round but in no case was it bad enough to warrant cutting, all showed signs of having sunk into their seats but not sufficient to account for all the loss of clearance recorded. The rear damper link & spring pad holes were not the same as those removed, we have filed them each half a hole outwards. The triple silentbloc links are shorter than the others, which brings the damper arm parallel or nearer the brake rod. It is also impossible to remove the bolt in the end of the damper arm without first removing the spring bolt. We are not sure whether the damper arm will foul the brake rod, but we will keep an eye open for this, also will there be sufficient travel of the damper piston? We shall go carefully on bumps until we hear from you. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} / D'Robce / A.G.Gardiner. | ||
