Sr. Re: PHANTOM III - COMPLAINTS. 1. Loss of Cross Steering tube poundage. Cricklewood have had one car back fitted with Bakelite contacts. The lubrication of the contact in this case was faulty causing a high static friction which was felt through the steering wheel when diverting from a straight course. The case has been fully reported to the Works. 2. Hand Brake inadequate and affected by load. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} has discontinued working on the Packard scheme. The D.O. have drawn a scheme for finer teeth on the ratchet. The advantage of this would be of little value and would not warrant the expense. A new scheme for an increased leverage is being fitted to present cars. 3. Oil leak from Rocker Cover Joints. The new type solid jointing is satisfactory, but in view of the expense 113/- per 100, we are trying a thinner Klinger black jointing costing 33/- per 100. The jointings are on the London Trials cars, and up to the present giving satisfactory results. 4. Clutches. The lighter type springs fitted to the Long Plate clutch have now been standardised, having given good results in service. These springs give approximately the same percentage of friction load as those fitted to the 25/30 and Bentley. Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
