1145 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/MH.{M. Huckerby} 29th. July 1938. V.W.Pilkington, Esq., Messrs. Leyland Motors Ltd., Leyland, LANCS. Dear Mr.Pilkington, I am very much indebted to you for your letter of July 28th. We much appreciate the information you have given us regarding cylinder bore wear and liners. We are, however, surprised to hear that the fitting of liners raises the cost of the complete block by as much as 40%. We understood that you were using Phosphor Chrome liners as standard, but apparently this is not so. From your figures it would certainly appear that chromium plating is going to be the solution of cylinder bore wear if it can be applied satisfactorily to production. I would be very much obliged if you would keep me in touch with your results, and just as soon as you feel that quantities can be successfully produced I would like to send you some blocks. With regard to the two-leading-shoe brake, I have written to the Patentees and will let you have a set of drawings. In the meantime we are carrying on with our tests. Yours faithfully, | ||
