With reference to the attached ref. CJ10/D18.8.22.

All the faults referred to in Bk{A. Birkett - Commercial Manager}4/DN/4.8.22. have been tackled and modifications made except in the case of the springing and steering. We are pushing with experiments to improve the steering and expect to modify even the first production cars, and make them considerably better.

There is nothing being done as regards the springing. We think the chief cause of the trouble under that heading is due to the body. We are using flexible springs with ample range of movement on the Goshawk. Although this is the best springing for alround work, it would have a tendency to roll with a top-heavy body.

With reference to the tyres. The experimental Goshawk cars running in Brittany experienced an abnormal number of punctures. These were found to be due to the nails which are used for protecting the horses hoofs. When the treads have worn thin on the tyres, these nails easily penetrate.
