Phantom III Five Blade Fan and Cheapened Starting Handle.

We issued a standardisation sheet some time ago for a five blade fan for Phantom III with larger driving belt. This necessitated a new starting handle support bracket etc. Since that time it has been agreed in conference with Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} that the cheapened starting handle scheme to LeC.5610 shall be adopted as soon as possible.

We think therefore that these two schemes should be combined and introduced together, dispensing with the rear bearing for starting handle.

We are therefore withdrawing our original standardisation sheet and substituting one including both these schemes. When you are detailing the parts for this, will you please increase the diameters of the pulleys EX26731 and EX26732 slightly so that the mean length of belt required is .750 more than it is with the pulley as drawn. This will give us a bigger range of adjustment before the belt reaches the limit of its adjustment.

We think that this combined scheme should be introduced as soon as possible without serious scrap i.e. on E series Phantom III.

Will you, however, please arrange for a supply of these fans with a modified starting handle bearing support bracket (to give ample belt clearance) to be available for use in case of overheating complaints on D series Phantom III cars or any previous series cars.
