SEVENTH REPORT OF DESIGN COMMITTEE.

Hot Well Pump.

The Design of the hot well pump required for the 'Hart' experimental evaporatively cooled machine was gone over. The scheme to be issued was agreed upon with one or two minor alterations to the lubrication.

Steering Column.

The question of the seizing up of Colin Cooper's steering column was discussed, and it was decided that we should replace the steel bracket on the end of the stationary tube, against which the moving steering tube rubs, by a delta metal bracket from which the undercut was removed and which had a minimum positive clearance of .003. No corresponding groove was to be put in the steering tube, and this decision was to apply to both the 40/50 HP. and the 20 HP.

It was pointed out that practically the whole of J.2. Series were in the Delta Metal, and it was recommended that we should arrange to reduce the size of the steel bracket on its bearing surface to give a positive clearance on diameter of .010. This can be done easily by raising the control portion of the column without removing the steering from the car.

At this juncture, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} raised the question of the direct leverage for the foot brakes, which we recommended should be modified at the same time. Particulars of this will be passed along by BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} this matter was raised in one of the first Design Committees which we held (See Rg{Mr Rowledge}1/LW.7.2.30). The recommendation is that we should write to customers and ask them to send their cars to the nearest depot, where parts and tools would be available for dealing with both proposals.
