| x300a GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}?} LES} How do we account for x with a tail bearing? HOTEL DE FRANCE. CHATEAUROUX. Indre. France. GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/5/JAB. 27th October 1935. To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. 31. EX. - PHANTOM III. We received a memo from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les to try the Engine front solid by fitting aluminum blocks in place of the rubbers. We received the blocks and endeavoured to fit them, but we find that we cannot do so without having two top steel caps, otherwise the Engine is not held. Will you please instruct the caps to be sent out. Re undershields for the Phantom III, we have come to the conclusion that the undershiled for the Clutch pit has no value, and can be discarded. Its only value on the old Phantom was protection for the Servo. The underpan for the gearbox is useless and can be deleted, as it does not protect anything useful. Now that we are running under winter conditions we are finding these values. The Servo is getting coated with sludge which is going through the holes in the cross. The undershield does nothing to protect this only vital part that wants protecting. It does shield the box from the cooling effect of air and the box will be kept cooler without it. We will send you sketches of shields that will be practicable. Re Leslie's query re effect of rear rubber mounting of gearbox, we have noticed a propeller shaft vibration at high speed, due to the collapse of the rubber. -------------- G.W.H.Hancock G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} W.
