Damage and distortion to the frame, fittings, and various chassis components.

- 16 - HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}28.9.37. Frames and Fittings LOP.F.87518. The Frame was bulged and distorted at the rear end in the vicinity of the 2nd and 3rd Crossmembers. The Axle Buffers and Buffer Casings F.87559 were damaged, although the 2 BA. Bolts had held. The Rubber Buffers F.87560 were badly cut and damaged. The Off Side Brake Drum had been rubbing against the Frame above the bulged portion, and both Brake Drums had fouled the Front Wheel Arch Brackets - see Ex.I.224. Battery Box Crossmember F.88781 was damaged due to fouling the Breather on the Rear Axle. The Hardy Spicer Propeller Shaft used on this was was 3" diameter; this had fouled the top, bottom and sides of the 3rd Crossmember F.88069. (The diameter of the Standard R.R. Propeller Shaft is 2.750). The Off Side bottom flange of the 3rd Crossmember is also bent and Stiffener F.87671 is distorted. Front Jacks F.88226 were damaged on the bottom pads, due to a slight accident. Front Crossmember F.88219 was damaged; the holes in Flanges F.87491 were elongated. Jack Brackets F.88215/6 were twisted 3° in relation to each other. The Front Brake Rods had fouled the Frame at the rear of the elongated hole. Front Pan F.87943 - the housing surface plates were inclined 1°8' and 1°, O.S. and N.S. respectively; these should be 0°25'. Surface Plates F.88288 had fidgetted slightly between the Alum. Housing and Pan; the nuts were found to be on the slack side. Both Engine Suspension Rubbers F.87575 had slightly distorted; the Near Side Centre Piece had come adrift from the rubber. Slight distortion had taken place on the Frame in the vicinity of the Torque Reaction Damper. The Governor Control Rod was fouling the Cruciform Member. continued. | ||
