X4655 c. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EFCl/T. 19th March, 1926. Messrs. The Chloride Elec. Storage Co. Ltd., Clifton Junction, Nr. Manchester. For the attention of Mr. E.C. McKinnon. Dear Sirs, The thickness of the ebonite separators in the standard cells which you are supplying to us appears to be .4 mm. (possibly a shade less), whereas some of us have had the impression for some time that they purported to be .5 mm. I should be glad if you would confirm that the thickness definitely is .4 mm. and in taking measurements of the thickness care should be taken that this does not include the burrs due to the perforations. The reason of this query is that we have been urging Messrs. Peto & Radford to increase the thickness of their separators to .5 mm. to bring them into line with yours, we having been under the impression that yours purported to be .5 mm., but now it transpires that your separators are actually only .4 mm. and we have to come to a decision as to what our requirements should be. As we now have a 10,000 mile present standard Exide battery opened up for inspection, I think it would be a good thing if you paid us another visit shortly and I will have a word with Mr. Whitehead in this connection. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
