re Continental Phantom Cylinder Head.

Please find attached prints of LeC.2935 and LeC.3220 in connection with the above.

The former shows the improved exhaust valve with larger stem and guide, originally instructed for Phantom and the first view on the latter shows 19-EX exhaust valve and guide on the higher compression head standard for continental Phantoms.

We have recently had trouble on 19-EX with the ends of the guides burning badly, and in one case the valve stem seizing.

We, therefore, propose to make the valve guide shorter and thicker to improve the cooling of the guide end, as shown on the right hand view.

This will expose .275" more of the valve stem but the effect of this can be tested.

Another modification also indicated is the to lengthen the valve stem boss in the cylinder .125", so as to maintain the dimension 1.225 from boss face to head the same as on the low compression type.

It is vital not to choke the exhaust, but the model rather indicates that this addition would not cause any effective restriction.

We are testing the existing 19-EX./with the modified head guides, and if the bosses are subsequently altered the guides could be lengthened .125" if found desirable.
