X7120. To H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.5/HP.1.10.32. c. Sr. Her. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Continental Phantom Jet Control for Semi-expanding Carburetter. In adopting the semi-expanding type of carburetter on the Continental P.II we shall be selling this side by side with carburetters of the old type, in which the mixture control lever operates normally in the mid position on the steering column. As no weakening of the mixture is permissible with the new type of carburetter we are faced with the problem of providing a control, which should not create confusion as between the two types. If we were going right over to the new type the matter could perhaps be regarded in a different light, but some confusion has already arisen and we wish to guard against the new carburetter being run in the mid strong position, which we fear would occur if we utilized the full range of the control. We, therefore, propose the arrangement of control shown on print LeC.3224 attached, in which the normal position is the same for both types of carburetters. Admittedly it would be better mechanically to have the full range on the column, but the swing of the lever if reduced, as shown, is still considerable. A print of LeC.3224 is also attached to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}'s copy of this memo. Print LeC.3224 attached. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
