X7791 EFC. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. C. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL6/AD7.11.29. WATFORD MAGNETOS ON PHANTOM I & II CARS. We are constantly experiencing failures on the E.W.6. magnetos on Phantom I and II cars. The make and break points burn out completely or become so badly pitted that new ones have to be fitted after a comparatively short mileage. Each time this occurs the faulty part is sent to EFC's dept. and is replaced by a new contact breaker. This trouble has been going on for a long time, and we do not appear to be making any progress towards rectifying it. The following are mileages completed by magnetos on various cars prior to the points either burning out or pitting so badly as to be beyond repair by trimming up. 10-EX - 1816 miles 22-EX - 6253 miles 14-EX - 5000 miles 14-EX - 5179 miles 12-EX - 3026 miles AVERAGE. 4318 miles It is obvious that this matter should be taken up seriously with the makers.
