Dear Sirs, We would like to use two Harris bushes as shown in the enclosed sketch (Fig.1), but are afraid that this will not be possible owing to there being no initial endwise compression on the end of the journal portion of the bush. If this endwise compression is essential, can you tell us whether the slight modification shown in Fig.2 would be a possible way of doing it? In the application shown we are using bush No.771 with a normal journal load, in this application, of some 60 lbs., but end loads can occur up to a maximum of perhaps 1000 lbs., though this happens very seldom. It is not possible to invert the bearing, i.e. use it in your normal manner in the centre portion and the room available round the ends is very limited. I shall be grateful for your comments.
