Dear Mr. Hives: Re Body Subframe - Section 7000 We notice that at "SS{S. Smith}" you are definitely proceeding with the "body subframe". I think I have written you about this some time ago, but would like some notes from you in the light of your latest experience. (1) How much does it weigh as a unit? (2) How much do you estimate that it adds to the weight of the complete car when advantage has been taken of possible saving in Coachwork construction? (advantages) (3) What are its (disadvantages) as regards distortion effects on coachwork? (4) What are its advantages as regard noise? (5) What are its effects on shimmy? (6) What is the resultant increase in floor height? That is the minimum height of floor above ground with subframe as against the minimum height without subframe. (7) From the point of view of the coachbuilder how is the sub-frame being received? (8) Are the seats mounted on the chassis direct or on the sub-frame through the coachwork construction?
