- 2 - (9) On one example we have seen with subframe the floor has been sunk down in such a way that cleaning, egress from the car, etc., have been interfered with, and the problem of fitting a good looking carpet has been difficult. Has this been overcome? (10) What sort of seal can be made between dash and cowl? (11) When mounting a body on a subframe, how do you arrange the adjustment of door-openings etcetera? Probably some of these questions should have been sent to Mr. Evernden or to someone at London, but am writing you direct so as to get a full survey, such as you have recently sent on several matters, which will serve to give us a full and unbiased idea of the advantages possible and the difficulties involved, and I should be glad if you would if necessary refer the matter to the Coachwork department also. You will realize that our position is that we have no experience of a subframe in action, and therefore we need educating from the start. If the outstanding advantage is an almost complete insulation of chassis and road noise, for example, and the incidental disadvantages are all of a minor nature, it is obvious that we should be getting very busy at once on adopting the subframe. Very truly yours, ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. Maurice Olley | ||
