SKETCH 7 Control equivalent to synchro mesh. Change speed lever. 2nd 1st. direct. 3rd. behind 1st. Interlock plate under here as usual. Change speed lever working the brakes for the annuli direct. Each brake has its own spring normally pushed up so as to release brake. The first small movement of the change speed lever (requiring very little force) allows the brake to act by virtue of its spring. The further movement of the change speedlever (requiring much greater force) lifts off the brake and positively puts in the pawls, which are controlled positively in each direction during the second half of the change speed lever movement. I have shewn a segment moving round a centre instead of the more usual straight sliders because of less friction etc. As far as I can see another cam will be needed to control the pawls, thus - The 4th. speed has nothing but the jaw clutch shewn on sketch. connected to pawls. | ||
